The single most-recommended sunscreen in dermatology offices.
EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 is the iconic untinted formula that put EltaMD on the map. 9% zinc oxide and 5% niacinamide work together to protect against UVA/UVB while calming acne, rosacea, and discoloration — in an oil-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free formula that disappears into the skin. The bottle on every dermatologist's recommendation list, for good reason.
Why people reach for it
Most sunscreens just protect. UV Clear actively reduces visible blemishes, calms redness, and evens tone every time you apply.
The reason dermatologists hand this bottle to clients with reactive skin — the formula is designed to calm, not aggravate.
No white cast, no ashy residue, no greasy film. Wears beautifully alone or under makeup.
Won't clog pores. Specifically formulated for breakout-prone and post-procedure skin.
Who it's for
Best for sensitive, acne-prone, rosacea-prone, and post-procedure skin:
Why it works
Hybrid mineral-chemical filter system — broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection without the heaviness of zinc-only formulations.
Reduces visible redness, calms inflammation, fades discoloration, and supports the skin barrier — built into your daily SPF.
Lightweight hydration layer that keeps the formula comfortable on dry, sensitive, or post-procedure skin.
Gentle exfoliating support that helps maintain smoother-looking skin with daily use — an unusual addition for a sunscreen.
How to use it

- Switch to UV Physical (zinc-only) if you need pure mineral
Common questions
Is this the best sunscreen for sensitive skin?
It's the most-recommended SPF in dermatology offices nationwide for sensitive skin, rosacea, and acne. The combination of zinc oxide, niacinamide, and a fragrance-free, oil-free base makes it tolerable for skin that reacts to almost everything else.
Is it mineral or chemical?
Hybrid. It uses 9% zinc oxide (mineral) AND 7.5% octinoxate (chemical) for broad-spectrum coverage. If you need a 100% mineral formula, look at EltaMD UV Physical or UV Pure instead.
Does UV Clear leave a white cast?
No — that's the entire point of the untinted formula. Iron oxides aren't included, but the zinc level is balanced to disappear into most skin tones. For deeper skin tones, the Deep Tinted version blends even better.
How is it different from EltaMD UV Daily?
UV Clear is for sensitive, acne-prone, rosacea-prone skin (with niacinamide). UV Daily is for normal-to-dry skin (with hyaluronic acid focus, no niacinamide). Different formulas for different skin types.
Is there a tinted version of UV Clear?
Yes — see our UV Clear Tinted SPF 46 listing for medium tones, and UV Clear Deep Tinted SPF 46 for deeper tones. Same niacinamide formula, with iron oxide pigment for blue light defense.
Can I use it on my body?
It works for body, but it's pricey for body coverage. Most clients reserve UV Clear for face/neck/chest and use a body sunscreen elsewhere.
Do you ship, or can I pick up locally?
Both. Free shipping over $100 within the US, or pick up at our San Antonio location (20327 Interstate 10 Ste 140) — usually ready within 24 hours of ordering.
"UV Clear is the SPF we recommend more than any other in this store. The niacinamide is the real difference — most clients see calmer skin and fewer breakouts within a few weeks of switching to it. There's a reason it's the cult classic."
